About Us
Fabric colors, textures and designs have long inspired my need to be creative. I’m personally a prolific quilt top artist. There is always another spot in my “nest” to tuck a quilt. Cotton fabric has changed dramatically since the days of my quilt shop, “The Patchworks” in Shab Row, Frederick, Md. I fondly reminisce about introducing the art of quilting to a generation of young women in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Everything that I taught my beginning students was by the book – teaching the importance of investing in quality fabric, the consequences of paying attention to the fabric grain as well as watching the smallest details to achieve perfect piecing. I spent endless hours with those tiny #10 needles and quilting thread passing on the art of hand piecing and quilting. I continue to have complete respect for handwork; with many hand pieced and quilted family treasures to my credit.
Today, with the proliferation of inviting quilt shops and all of the gadgets that make fabric piecing so much faster, we’re encouraged to piece more quilts tops; resulting in piles of uncompleted projects. However, with the introduction of the Gammill LongArm married to the convenience of the computerized Statler Stitcher, these tops can be quilted in a number of hours or days rather than months or years. And the best part, there are thousands of digitized designs to choose from.
Being a consummate perfectionist carries over to my Long Arm work. I am truly grateful to receive the quilt tops that you entrust to me and I handle them as carefully as if they were my own. We can discuss fixing any small imperfections, seaming and ironing and most importantly, work together to find just the right pattern; whether it be an overall pantograph or a complete custom design. But the most fun – watching you open your “bagged quilt” (your quilt tucked neatly in a special zipper bag designed for you to pick up and deliver your quilts to me) and seeing the look on your face.
When you hear the quote “love what you do and you will never work a day in life” think of me and the complete joy I get from this endeavor.
