I can breathe again!

14 Nov 2011

With the little quilt finished and already gifted to the mother to be (or my daughter as she is commonly known) and the completion of the "beauty quilt" the one that is just supposed to hang for decoration completed and also given to the expectant parents, I can take a break.  For how long I'm not sure, but these days come few and far in between and boy do they feel good.

Of course there is wash to be done, leaves to be raked, grass to be mowed - but sometimes I just need to focus on something other than the sewing and the quilting machine to clear my head.  My quilters have been very good getting their November and December projects already completed - no last minute worries for them.

Wanted to show you the Teddy Bear parade pattern that I used on the baby's quilt.  This is one of my favorite generic children's quilting designs.  It go boy or girl - cute either way! I will get a proper picture of the "beauty quilt" which happens to be sailboats riding on waves.  The baby shower was not the place for me to get a good shot.

Take a look at the home page for new quilts.  I recently finished a huge "t-shirt" quilt complete with a Tutu and footed pj's.  It was quite a work of art.  I am sorry to say that in all my rushing around this past weekend, I forgot to photograph it.  I will see what I can do about getting a copy to show.  It is very unusual. Don't forget to click on the home page picture to go straight to the photo gallery for the quilt close up shots.

So for now, I am closing the computer, getting in my car and heading home probably to work on leaf blowing and raking if it is not too windy. Ahhhhhh - that sounds good!

Keep working on those Christmas projects - you don't want to miss your opportunity to have them machine quilted.  I made a promise to myself that I am not quilting on Christmas Eve this year : )

It's Tuesday and I have another new project!

25 Oct 2011

Bunny Bernstein dropped by with this beautiful batik quilt yesterday afternoon.  She is donating it to a raffle for a homeless shelter (if I got the story right : )

I have two more rows to go and I am using Glide thread.  You know, I think that I am going to begin recommending it more because so matter what the fabric weight or batting used, it always performs beautifully. I have also decided to sell my Alto's Cutting Board System.  I have only used it once. it really just boils down to the fact that I don't have any room for it.  It is a beautiful board with a secure plexiglass "ruler" that you can use to cut any size piece, numerous angles and borders and sashing in a neat, precise manner.  Email me if you are interested.  I still have the CD and directions book - I would recommend scanning them before starting to learn all of the tricks of the board!

Enjoy this beautiful day!

Pictures of our quilt project!

23 Oct 2011

Well, I decided to add a small white border around the squares to separate the squares from the strip border. And below you will see the results!  Emily liked it so much, that she "claimed" it for her diaper bag and how can a first time grandmother say no : )  I put a soft flannel on the back of the quilt and used Teddy Bear Parade in a variegated color for the quilt design. I am happy with it and so is Emily - I don't think the baby will have a clue except to grow up knowing he is very much loved!!!! You can see more close ups of the quilt design on the main page gallery.

Nothing like a little hurricane to get you in the sewing room!

29 Aug 2011

Well look at this - I spent the weekend finishing the blocks for the little quilt.  Now, if too many things don't interfere tonight, I hope to get the blocks together.  The step after that - I have decided to put a small white border around the quilt followed by another border of strips of all of the colors used in the quilt!!!

We didn't have too much hurricane damage.  You always worry when you live in the woods; but mainly just lots of leaves down, some tree limbs but nothing serious.  Thanks goodness we had the dead trees closest to the house taken down last winter. I am seriously sick of cleaning up leaves, sticks and spending the money to take care of the trees, but it is good exercise.  You have to find the positive in everything.

Now if I could just get past the garter stitch on the baby blanket all would be good.  I thing the baby is going to have to take this thing to at least elementary school with them.  I have no idea how I knit all of those cute baby clothes for Emily when she was a baby.  Must have had more brain cells back in the day : )

If you are following along with the little quilt - keep working!  I can tell that it is going to be very colorful and cute.

My project for today - TGIF : )

19 Aug 2011

Joanne Langon brought me this quilt yesterday.  She happened to have found it in a box.  She had forgotten all about it.  I wish I had one of those magic boxes!

It is definitely a ""winter quilt" with snowflakes - thus the pattern Christmas Snow.

Now don't forget to keep up with our little quilt.  I have a block on my desk ready for the ironing board when I have some spare time.
