My Little Moda Quilt!

It certainly didn't take very long to assemble or quilt. I wanted to use an elaborate, eye catching quilting design to offset the fact that the quilt top is rather mundane. I think it works! This would be a great first project for someone who wants to get their feet wet with cutting and piecing something very simple. (I will have a picture of it up this evening).
I chose to use Lois's technique of ironing all of the seams open rather than ironing the seam to the dark side of the block. This technique allows the seam to lay flat, corners meet nicely without a lot of bulk and you do no have that situation where one end of the seam is lying in one direction and the other side is lying in another direction. I have had many beautiful quilts pass through my machine that suffer from this situation; it causes a problem with pressing the quilt and leaves "bumps" that can be unsightly.
Remember to "press" your quilt top rather than "iron" it. You simply want to apply heat and pressure without stretching the top. If you are wary of your iron - some do spit and behave badly - use a pressing cloth to avoid any scorching.
It is time to take down the St. Patrick's day snowman. I think the spring snowman is more appropriate. I will find a picture of her and post her next.
My next project has to Mazy - she has been in the closet so long just crying to get out. I don't think Emily will have this quilt before the end of the school year and low and behold she has decided to try her hand at teaching second grade next year. I'm not certain that Mazy will be as appreciated in that environment! I may have to donate her to the kindergarten team.
I appreciate the supply of quilts that you keep sending me. Each one is a new and fun challenge.
Enjoy your spring day!
Linda
