Happy Mother's Day!

While windy and chilly, Mother's day 2010 has come and gone - again! I sincerely hope that everyone had a chance to spend time with or talk to their mother.  My mother is such an important influence in my life.  So very creative and expressive; I always say that she was my "Martha Stuart" before the public knew Martha existed.

She taught me to create - to be patient and kind - to cook - to sew and most importantly of all -quilt!  She is my best friend and biggest influence.  How lucky I am to have her in my life - she and my father provided me with a wonderfully "normal" and happy childhood.  I am now lucky enough to have my own daughter and son-in- law.  They treated me like a queen on Mother's Day with day of laughter and good company culminating in a deliciously prepared dinner.  Thank you Emily and Steve!

I want to share a story with you about a wonderful family that I met today.  I was lucky enough to hear from a young man named Justin several months ago.  He was inquiring about the possibility of me quilting a quilt top that his mother had made for he and his family before she passed away.  I was touched that he chose me to finished this cherished project.  I felt like she was talking to me as I picked the quilting thread colors, prepared the backing and chose the quilting pattern.  I even felt her presence while I was choosing batik fabric from my stash for the binding. I met Justin and his young family today when they came to pick up the quilt - perfect timing!  They were a lovely family and happy with the quilt results.  When they left, I couldn't help but think about being so lucky to have my Mom to call on Mother's Day.  Life is so precious, cherish the people you love!

Love to my Mom and all of the other Mother's present in our lives and hearts.
