Optimism tinged with sadness

As all of my readers know - and are sick of hearing about - is my daughter's wedding. Emily was not lucky enough to have my parents at the wedding because of Mom's unexpected surgery but she did have Steve's grandfather there and her new husband's grandfather from his father's side and his grandparents from his mother's side.
The groom's grandmother (Audrey) made them a beautiful applique and pieced quilt that they cherish. So you can just imagine that Audrey and I got along well immediately! Her husband laughed and told me that he was the "cutter" and it took a little while to figure out the 1/4" seam allowances - but he did it! Wouldn't it be great to have someone cutting all of your quilt pieces. The quilt was fabulous and on display at the wedding reception - I will post pictures of it when we get the professional photographers release of the pictures.
I am so very sad to say that Audrey passed away shortly after returning home from the wedding. We were all so glad that she was able to see her grandson get married and dance with her darling husband several times during the reception. She was just adorable and very friendly.
I am lucky that Emily brought back all of Audrey's unfinished quilt tops that need to be quilted. I do think she would be very happy knowing that they will be completed with love and handed down to the next generation. I know that I feel very lucky to have been able to meet her and especially blessed with the task of tying up all of the quilting loose ends. It makes my heart smile.
