Lot's of quilting going on : )

I just want to thank all of my customers (who have really become friends) that trust me with their quilts and keep me quite busy.  Thank you too, to the surrounding quilt shops that recommend me, I would not be in business without all of you.

When I started this business, I thought that the most difficult aspect of it would be learning the long arm machine.  Now, I am not saying that didn't take some time and was frequently frustrating, but that was a cake walk compared to everything else involved.

I wear the hat of an advertiser, a purchasing agent, a photographer, a bookkeeper and "social" secretray as I am always on the phone trying to juggle meetings with customers to save the most time and let's don't forget about being a computer operator (which I am not very good with).  Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining.  I love running a creative business and best of all I get to work with beautiful quilts everyday and their lovely "owners".

I was happy to get the Maisy quilt put together (and almost completed) so my daughter can use it with her first grade students.  They have been lucky enough the last two years to have "The Hungry Caterpillar", "Dick and Jane" and "Brown Bear, Brown Bear".  They have loved each and every one of them, especially when Emily introduces the quilts after the companion story.  Of course, Maisy will be the star of the show for this year's first graders.  Who could be having more fun than me? I get to make the quilts and then visit the classroom to see the looks on the six year olds faces when they see the quilts in front of them.  It is truly gratifying.

Knowing that the quilting community is very active in donating their time and projects to their surrounding area, I have worked with "Konker Cancer" (pillow cases for cancer ridden patients) - the children seem to come alive with a fun pillow case all of their own - it's makes endless treatments less stressful. You can find them on the web.  I was lucky enough to meet the mom responsible for getting all of this started after her son died of cancer.

I now have a fun surprise for my Drs. office for my upcoming next appointment.  I like to practice, practice, practice and what better way to practice than on colorful panels with lots of room for borders and sashing.  And having so much excess fabric, I made him loads of pillowcases to cheer up those reluctant little patients.  I do so hope that they will enjoy them - and I also hope that he doesn't visit my website! : 0

It's all about enjoying what you do, looking forward to the next "friend" that you are going to meet and most importantly giving back to the commumity. For those of you who are interested in making quilts for children, you could talk to Cindy at Needles and Pins.  I know that she actively works with the Frederick police for just this very reason.  I am certain that many of the local quilt guilds do the same.

Keep creating, just a few minutes a day will get a project finished eventually!

Linda
