I've been Facebooking

As you can tell by the Facebook icon on the lower right corner of the front page of my website, you will be able to get all of the up to date info more frequently - not that I'm lazy : ) ; but Facebook puts a limit on the number of characters that you can type and that saves me time.  I also wanted a space where we could be interactive.  Fun, don't you think.

At any rate, this is my second attempt at updating the blog.  I labored over another version of this yesterday afternoon only to have the "web bugs" send it into cyberspace without even asking.  The nerve.  I was just too tired to write another.  It was pretty good though.

What I was trying to get across yesterday, is that yes, I am busy with quilts - there are always some waiting in the wings.  But if you have a deadline and only a few days notice, I can usually accomplish the job (but only if it is edge to edge).  Save the heirloom quilting for an appointment : )

Let's clear up another subject - I've been told that I have too many restrictions.  Since i wasn't told that directly, I can only address this issue as I see it.  I'm merely giving you suggestions for putting together your quilt as efficiently and carefully as I know how.  That's not to suggest that I am judging your work.  You never need to apologize to me for being a less than perfect quilter.  Unless your quilt is judged at one of the national shows, I don't think that any of us have anything to worry about.

I merely ask that you try to press your seams open, give me at least three to four inches on all sides of the back and batting, try to get the borders on straight, use a 1/4 seam allowance and remember what quilting is all about - fun!

I've been snooping around the internet looking for information to share.  I found that Amy Butler has some free downloads of her patterns, that http://www.webfabrics.net and Quilt Home (you can find the link for that website homepage), have some very nice fabric selections.  I know most of us like the experience of shopping in the stores, but when you are looking for that something special, this option could save a lot of time and gas.

I did order the "Ives" color wheel and a book about color in quilts to improve my skills.  Apparently the fabric designers use this particular color wheel and maybe, just maybe I won't be like a deer in the headlights next time I enter a quilt shop to actually buy fabric for myself.  I have absolutely no sense of color theory, yet I work with many of quilts that just have that certain wow factor.  In the past, I have just headed for a quilt kit.  I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Then I ordered this interesting little tool from one of my suppliers.  It is supposed to be the next best thing to sliced bread.  In fact, it was touted to perform so many magical feats that I can't honestly say just what it does.  When it arrives, I will let you know whether or not it is a thumbs up.

And of course, there is that "Reliable" iron that I talked about on Facebook!  Best iron I have ever found.  Hope it has a nice, long life.  There is nothing worse than an iron that spits on your quilts.

Stay busy - looked like "quilt camp" at the Grange was going to be very interesting.

Linda
