A refresher on what we are making (you can also scroll down several blogs and review the cutting and sewing process).
The pattern that we are using is called "Clay's Choice. I am making mine without white in the individual squares but only as the "fillers". My quilt will measure 40.50 x 47.00 when finished. The individual white squares and the blocks measure 6.50 inches (finished) and the strips on the border will be 4 inches long.
If you are making a quilt similar to the one I will be working on, you will start by cutting 15 - 7 inch squares.
I am using my Alto's cutting mat for the squares because I can cut multiple layers quickly. I will later check them for accuracy on my Olfa mat and and 8 inch plexiglass ruler.
I then lightly starch them using spray starch with a pressing cloth (I don't like the starch built up on the bottom of my iron). So for fabric yardage for the white fabric - you need three rows of 7 inch squares or 15 inches of fabric - be generous and get at least a 3/4 of a yard. If you are going to use the white in the individual pieced blocks then purchase a yard. That will give you more than enough. I am using a group of 2 1/2 inch precut strips of Bali prints. You can scroll down several blogs and see the entire tutorial regarding cutting and piecing the block. Today, I just intend to get my 15 white squares cut and one quilt block. Let me know how you are progressing or if you have any questions. Have fun, Linda.
